Dentistry Under Sedation

Sedation Dentistry

Are you afraid of the dentist? We offer sedation dentistry, so you can complete your dental treatment

Dentistry has come a long way since the days of the paddle drill and smoking opioids to achieve pain relief. Today, dental procedures from the simple restoration to the most complex root canal therapy can be easily undertaken with minimal to no discomfort with effective administration of local anaesthetics.

At Extreme Dentistry, We Understand

Many people have developed a phobia or anxiety associated with dentistry, which is usually due to past negative experiences. At Extreme Dentistry, we are able to offer dental treatment under sedation, depending on the level of anxiety and your preference on how “out of it” you want to be during treatment.

We offer the following forms of sedation for our patients:

  1. Nitrous Oxide – also known as Laughing Gas or Happy Gas
  2. Oral Sedation – The use of anti-anxiety relaxant medication to help take the edge off. Medication is usually taken in the dentist office an hour before dental treatment.
  3. Penthrox– The active ingredient of penthrox is Methoxyfluorane. Penthrox is administered in the surgery in the presence of a doctor. It has strong pain relieving and anti-anxiety properties.

The next step up is general aesthetic (GA), during which you are fully asleep. GA can only be offered at a day surgery unit in a hospital.
The decision to seek treatment under sedation is a serious one. It should be taken only after consultation with the dentist who will help you figure out which type of sedation will adequately help you cope with the procedure safely and predictably.
